This programme is designed for people working with communities and developing recreation initiatives that strengthen health and wellbeing.

By completing the Community Development certificate, you will gain the skills and knowledge to engage with your community to plan, implement and evaluate a recreation or sport initiative.

To enrol in this programme, you need to be working in the recreation and sport sector, in a paid job, self-employed, or as a volunteer with regular and consistent shifts.

This 60-credit qualification covers is designed to be completed in 8 to 12 months.

You'll be trained, observed and assessed in the workplace.

Key learning areas include:

  • Planning a community engagement process aimed at strengthening hauora
  • Working together with a range of people to determine community aspirations
  • Facilitating and supporting a recreation or sport initiative to strengthen community development
  • Reflecting on and evaluating the initiative.
