Meet Braden: Aquatics superstar!

Published 27 February 2024
Meet Braden Longstaff, facility manager for Hutt City Council Pools. Braden has just completed his Te Mahi Ako assessor registration and will now be able to train and assess all their new pool lifeguard recruits for the Pool Lifeguard Practicing Certificate (PLPC).

Braden started his career as a lifeguard in his teens (not that long ago) and has shown strong organisational and leadership skills to fill the role of facility manager across four pool sites in the Hutt City (WOW!). It’s a family affair with Braden’s brothers also working at the pools.

Braden will continue his journey as an ākonga with Te Mahi Ako as he is also completing his NZ Certificate in Aquatic Water Treatment Systems Level 4. Braden describes his qualification journey as an interesting yet challenging experience, particularly as it unfolded amidst the bustling activity of managing their other busy summer pools.

Ka rawe Braden, thanks for being such an aquatics superstar and we hope your journey inspires other young pool lifeguards.
