Angie Gooch is a regional learning advisor at Te Mahi Ako. Angie is someone who likes variety, and her interests have spanned a few of the sectors in te ahumahi ā-rēhia.

She taught caving, rafting, abseiling, rock climbing and high ropes for many years, and worked in various recreation, event management and sport roles.

She has been a drummer with Wellington Batucada - a Brazilian drumming troupe - for the last 20 years, and has turned her hand to crafting Brazilian drums. And she goes to the gym every week with her wife Cindy. Angie brings all of her sector experience into her role working with learners and clients, along with her passion for helping people and solving problems.

“I really enjoy my job. I love the variety of what we do. Being in the office, or at home, or on the road, it’s all different. There are always curly questions in there, and I like that because the problem-solving is the fun and challenging part!”

No matter how curly the question, Angie is known for her 1000-watt smile, both at work and in her free time.

“Apparently my smile has helped to encourage people join the Batucada. I always try and stand on the side of the group when we are parading down the street, because it’s all about smiling and engaging with people. So I smile like heck and engage, and some people have said they remembered my smiley face and decided they would join up too!”
