NZ Certificate in Aquatics (Pool Lifeguard) (L3)
This programme is for people working as pool lifeguards and looking after swimmers and other pool users. The Pool Lifeguard Level 3 certificate will prepare you to be confident using your supervision, rescue and emergency response skills when needed.

What's involved
This 40-credit qualification is designed to be completed in about 8 months.
You'll be trained and observed and assessed in the workplace. Some of your assessments will be completed online.
Key learning areas include:
- Aquatic supervision techniques
- Aquatic rescue techniques
- Supervising customers
- Identifying and managing hazards and risks
- Leading emergency responses.
Before you start
To enrol in this programme, you need to be working in a paid job at a pool or an aquatic facility, self-employed, or a volunteer with regular and consistent shifts.

Introduction to Pool Operations
Course Overview
This programme equips learners with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to operate swimming and spa pools safely and effectively. It covers key topics including maintaining water quality, understanding pool treatment processes, handling and storing chemicals safely, and carrying out routine water testing and monitoring.
As part of the programme, learners can also work towards achieving Unit Standard 20046 – Monitor pool water quality and the safe storage of chemicals. Successfully completing this standard supports ongoing professional development and capability within the aquatics industry.
